Union Fire Department and County authorities are at the scene of a train derailment this afternoon.
Officials have confirmed that emergency responders are in the area of Green Lane in Union after a train - involving several empty train cars - derailed sometime around 2 p.m.
Raritan Valley Line service is suspended in both directions between Newark Penn Station and Cranford.
There are no immediate reports of injuries or hazards however details are still emerging.
The cause of the derailment remains under investigation.

FYI - from NJ transit:
Due to a freight derailment near Union Station, the Raritan Valley Line service is suspended in both directions between Newark Penn Station and Cranford and also between Raritan and High Bridge stations.
Customers traveling out of New York, can take the following NJ TRANSIT buses from the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Train tickets and passes will be cross-honored on buses.
