Newark Police officers took three high school teens into custody then charged them with robbing a 17-year-old girl on Monday afternoon.
According to authorities, police were called to the Barringer High School at around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday to take a report of a robbery that occurred near the school on Monday.
Police said a 17-year-old girl was robbed of her cell phone by three 15-year-old boys who approached her armed with a knife and a gun then shouted demands to hand over her cell phone.
The victim was able to give police a description of the suspects who police identified as Barringer High School students authorities said.
A Newark Special Police officer assigned to the high school -with the assistance of a school resource officer- located the boys inside the school building, then placed them under arrest.
Police said two of the boys were officially charged with robbery and possession of weapons for an unlawful purpose while authorities accused the third suspect with conspiracy.
Authorities would not release the identity of the suspects due to their ages.
The victim did not suffer any physical injuries.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
