The victim of a robbery at a 99 cents store located on South Orange Ave. in Newark spoke out for the first time, claiming she was punched by one of the assailants that appeared to be two teens who were stealing from her store.
In an interview with RLS Metro, the victim (who did not want to be photographed for safety reasons) said this past Tuesday August 5th at approximately 6:45 p.m. as she was preparing to close the store for the evening, a male and female team appearing to be no more than 15-years-old entered the store when the male walked over to the counter to asked if she sold cell phone batteries. The clerk told the male suspect that she did not sell batteries. The male assailant then began to walk towards the rear of the store when she begin to exchanged words with the suspect.
The owner said the female assailant, (who stood near the entrance of the store) grabbed a pack of hair extensions, placing them under her dress. The clerk said when she begin to confront the female assailant, the male assailant came behind the counter and took approximately $500 in cash.
"I tried to stop both suspects with the help of a passing customer but the situation turned violent quickly", the clerk said. The male suspect then punched her in the face in his attempt to flee the store. "Besides being a little sore, I am ok", the clerk said.
"I don't feel ok, I don't want to be here anymore", the clerk added.
Police have launched an investigation.
