A traffic stop on a North Carolina highway has several New Jersey residents in custody after police recovered a large supply of illegal drugs in the vehicle they were occupying.
According to a statement released to RLS Metro Breaking News, police said on Saturday at approximately 1:15 a.m., the Nash County Sheriff’s Office Tar River Regional Drug Task Force received information that a male subject would be transporting a significant amount of heroin into Nash County from New Jersey.
Authorities said based on the information received, the Tar River Regional Drug Task Force, the Nash County Sheriff's Office Highway Interdiction Team, and members of the Drug Enforcement Administration were able to locate a vehicle exiting Interstate 95 South, onto U.S. Highway 64 West.
Officers reportedly stopped the vehicle for a moving violation on W. Washington Street in Nashville when a Nash County Sheriff’s Office Canine indicated to the presence of the odor of narcotics on the passenger door as well as to the presence of the scent of narcotics on the glove box of the vehicle.
The Tar River Regional Drug Task Force, the Nash County Sheriff's Office Highway Interdiction Team, and members of the Drug Enforcement Administration searched the vehicle and were able to seize 283 bricks (14,150 bundles) of packaged heroin, along with 101.1 grams of raw heroin.
The 101.1 grams of raw heroin was located in a hidden compartment in the dashboard area of the vehicle. Another vehicle involved in this case of trafficking heroin was also stopped North Carolina authorities said.
Police arrested five arrested five individuals at the scene without incident and charged them with the following:
• **Mr. Michael Green, Newark, NJ** was charged with three counts of Trafficking Opium or Heroin and Conspire to Traffic Opium/Heroin and given a $1.5M secured bond.
• **Ms. Kahdijah Tamirah Smith, 33, Vauxhall, NJ** was charged with Trafficking Opium or Heroin and three counts of Conspire to Traffic Opium/Heroin and given a $1.5M secured bond.
• **Mr. Shamsuddi M. Green, 37, East. Orange, NJ** was charged with four counts of Conspire to Traffic Opium/Heroin and given a $1M secured bond.
• **Mr. Rachine R. Green, 42, Columbus, OH** was charged with one count of Conspire to Traffic Opium/Heroin and given a $250,000.00 secured bond.
• **Mr. Kawuan Robertson, 38, Irvington, NJ** was charged with one Conspire to Traffic Opium/Heroin and given a $250,000.00 secured bond.
All defendants have a first court appearance set for this month in the Nash County Courthouse.
These are accusations. All of the suspects are consider innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
