A male found suffering gunshot wounds in a neighborhood in Newark has authorities from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office investigating a homicide this morning.
The late-night shooting happened in the 70's block of South 7th Street -at 11th Avenue- shortly before 11 p.m. where police responded to reports of shots fired at that location.
First responding officers secured the scene after they found a male victim unconscious and unresponsive suffering gunshot wounds to the head according to preliminary reports.
Medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The incident was handed over to the Essex County Prosecutor's to determine the motive for the shooting.
Authorities have not released the identity of the victim at this time.
