Woman Who Pushed 5-Year-Old Girl onto Burlington City Train Tracks is Acquitted on Insanity Grounds

Burlington City

A woman charged with attempted murder for pushing a girl in front of an on-coming train was found not guilty of attempted murder by reason of insanity.

Burlington County Superior Court Judge Philip E. Haines, today made the ruling after reviewing reports from two doctors who examined her on two separate occasions.

The woman, Autumn Matacchiera, 20, of Hainesport - who was diagnosed with mixed personality disorder, anxiety, schizoaffective disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and autism spectrum disorder - is scheduled to appear at a Krol hearing on May 2018, where it will be decided whether or not Mataccheria is a danger to herself and others, and whether or not she will be held in a facility.

According to authorities, in January, Matacchiera pushed a 5-year-old girl onto the train tracks in Burlington City reportedly to sacrifice her, hoping to prove she loved her grandmother.

Officers quickly jumped in front of the train to signal it to stop while a relative removed her from the tracks.

The girl was transported to Memorial Hospital with a cut to her face and bruising.
