Hillside Man Accused of Biting Roselle Park Officer During Vehicle Stop

A 22-year-old Hillside Man was arrested Monday following a traffic stop in Roselle Park.

According to police, on Monday at approximately 11:24 p.m., a police officer observed a vehicle with no front license plate, and several lights out driving in the city.

The officer conducting the motor vehicle stop in the area of Chestnut Street and Grant Avenue spoke to the driver, later identified as Olajuwon Mcrae, 22, of Hillside, when a strong odor of marijuana was detected in the vehicle.

Authorities said backup officers arrived at the scene and observed Mcrae attempt to hide suspected marijuana in the glove compartment box.

Mcrae then physically attempted to block one of the officers from retrieving the suspected marijuana.

Police said as officers attempted to remove Mcrae, he refused to exit the vehicle then bit an officer on the hand.

Officers ultimately arrested and charged Mcrae with possessing a controlled dangerous substance after they found him with several bags of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

They also charged him with third-degree aggravated assault and third-degree resisting arrest.

Police issued Mcrae motor vehicle summonses for CDS in a motor vehicle, no front license plate, failure to maintain lamps, and several other violations.
