UPDATE: Newark Suspect Wanted for Allegedly Firing Shots During Fight that Involved Two Women

There is an active search underway for a suspect wanted for an aggravated assault that occurred in the city on Friday.

Police said they are looking for Mr. James Bell, 25, of Newark, who they say is wanted for an incident that occurred on October 27th.

According to a statement released by Newark Police officials, at approximately 8:45 p.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired at Norwood Avenue, near South Orange Avenue.

Upon their arrival, police said they were informed that a male pulled a gun and repeatedly fired at a woman following a fight she had with another woman.

Police said the shooting suspect is a friend of the woman engaged in the fight with the victim Bell allegedly fired the gun at. The victim was uninjured during the shooting.

Newark detectives developed sufficient evidence to identify James Bell as a suspect in this shooting incident and obtained a warrant for his arrest on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Aggravated Assault.

Police described James Bell as 5’6” tall, approximately 135 lbs. and is considered armed and dangerous.

These are mere accusations lodged against Mr. Bell. He is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law upon his capture or surrender to police.
