NYC Terror Attack Suspect Allegedly Lived in Paterson Apartment; Truck Rented Out of Passaic

Paterson Passaic

As authorities continue to investigate what drove a 29-year-old man to allegedly rammed a rented truck down a Manhattan bike path that killed several people, evidence has now extended the investigation into New Jersey.

This all started shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday, when the suspect, later identified as Sayfullo Saipov, drove a white truck down West Street bike path in lower Manhattan, where he reportedly struck cyclists and pedestrians before hitting a school bus.

Police said he then exited the vehicle brandishing what police described as two imitation guns and was subsequently shot in the abdomen by police.

According to preliminary reports, Saipov in the recent months reportedly moved into a two-bedroom apartment on the 100 block of Genessee Avenue with his wife and children.

Police also determined that the truck reportedly used in the deadly rampage was rented from a Home Depot in Passaic, where authorities have cordoned a portion of the parking lot where a white Toyota Sienna with Florida license plates is parked.

It was also determined that Saipov, who was working as an Uber driver, passed a background check completed by the company.

Uber, who has reportedly banned Saipov from the ride-sharing service, is cooperating with the FBI in its investigation.
