Altercation at Frat Party in New Brunswick Results in Gunfire

New Brunswick

This is a statement released by New Brunswick Police regarding a shooting that erupted at a party overnight.

The New Brunswick Police Department is investigating an altercation at a party that resulted in gunfire, and one victim sustaining non-life threatening injuries.

The preliminary police investigation suggests that at approximately 1:30 am, a group of eight to ten African American males attempted to gain entry to a social event for a few fraternities and sororities located at 120 Hamilton Street.

When the group was denied entry, a physical altercation ensued between the group and the guests of the event.

The altercation escalated to a large brawl on the sidewalk in front of 122 Hamilton Street.

As the brawl was ending an African American male, with shoulder length dreadlocks, and between 5’7” and 5’9”, wearing a white baggy shirt and blue jeans, pulled out a black handgun and fired one or two rounds into the crowd.

The suspect and the group he came with then fled on foot down Hamilton Street towards Easton Avenue.

As a result of the gunfire, one of the guests at the party (21-year-old male from New Brunswick) was shot in the shoulder.

He was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where he was treated for the non-life threatening injury.

NOTE: Police in Edison have also reported that a shooting that injured two at a Halloween party on Thursday evening was a Fraternity-Sorority sponsored event.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the New Brunswick Detective Bureau at (732) 745-5217.
