Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrest of Mr. Sebastian Sarri, 24, of Englewood on Computer-Related Theft, Theft by Deception, and Fraudulent Use of Credit Card charges.
According to authorities, on September 29th, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office received a complaint from a Mahwah, New Jersey-based doctor who believed that his medical office had been the victim of credit card related fraud and theft.
Authorities said as a result of an investigation conducted by Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Financial Crimes Unit detectives they determined that Sarria, an employee at the doctor’s office, unlawfully accessed the doctor’s credit card processing system and had voided patient-based credit card payments.
Once Sarria voided the payments in the doctor’s system, he processed them through a cellphone/computer-based credit card application he had subscribed to in his name authorities said.
Sarria then allegedly transferred the payments, which totaled approximately $20,000, to his personal bank account and used the monies for his purposes authorities said.
As a result of the investigation, police arrested Sarria in Mahwah, then charged him with one count of Computer Related Theft, with a value higher than $5,000 but less than $250,000, one count of Theft by Deception, with a value greater than $500 but less than $75,000, and, one count of Fraudulent Use of Credit Cards.
Authorities served Sarria with a Complaint-Summons for the charges as mentioned above then released him on a Wednesday, November 1st court date.
Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
