Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announces that Courtney Simpson, 34, of Paterson, was found guilty after a jury trial before the Honorable Adam E. Jacobs, J.S.C.
Jury selection commenced on September 12, 2017, and the trial started on October 3, 2017.
Authorities said on October 19, 2017, following approximately four days of deliberations, the jury returned guilty verdicts on first degree Aggravated Manslaughter, second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
Mr. Simpson is exposed to up to thirty (30) years in New Jersey State Prison on the count of Aggravated Manslaughter, subject to the No Early Release Act, and up to ten (10) years on the weapon counts.
Authorities said Mr. Simpson was remanded to the Passaic County Jail pending sentence after Judge Jacobs revoked his bail of $1,000,000.00.
Mr. Simpson’s sentence is scheduled for December 8, 2017, before the Honorable Adam E. Jacobs, J.S.C.
The State presented evidence at the trial that on February 22, 2014, Mr. Simpson shot and killed Ferron Green after a verbal altercation in the area of Ellison St. and East 18th St. in Paterson. Mr. Simpson was later located and arrested in December of 2014 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
