Firefighters are on the scene of a fire that is destroying a building in North Plainfield at this time.
The multi-alarm fire ripped through a large vacant health care facility that's located in the in the 600 block of Somerset Street (Villa Maria) shortly before 3:30 a.m. sending firefighters and mutual assistance to the scene where crews began an exterior attack after heavy fire tore through the structure.
The fire reached 5-alarms as of 4:30 a.m. with dozens of firefighters assisting in the operation.
There are no injuries reported and the cause is under investigation.
North Plainfield High School, North Plainfield Middle School, Stony Brook school and Harrison School closed for the day due to smoke in the area.
