An armed carjacking reported in a neighborhood in Newark is under investigation by police.
Officers were called to the 300 block of North 5th Street to investigate a carjacking in progress report at around midnight.
Upon their arrival, the owner of the vehicle reported being approached by a black male suspect armed with a gun who took a white 2014 Kia Optima shortly before police arrived.
The car has a reported NJ license plate number "V12-JHC".
There were no immediate reports of physical injuries.
