Detectives from the Special Enforcement Bureau responded to a Crime Stoppers tip regarding a man with a gun in the area of Kent and Brenner streets on October 7th.
Upon arrival, police observed a man - identified as Demitri Lewis, 23, of Henderson, North Carolina - who they said fit the description of the suspect.
A further investigation lead to the arrest of Lewis, who was found in possession of a loaded .357 caliber handgun.
Authorities charged Lewis with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of Prohibited Ammunition (hollow point bullets).
Police said on Tuesday, October 3rd, officers arrested Darius Spence, 22, of Newark, for weapon and CDS possession.
Authorities said detectives responded to Norwood Street near Abinger Place on a report of drugs being sold in the area.
Upon becoming aware of police presence, Spence dropped a vial containing marijuana and was immediately arrested.
Police allegedly found Spence in possession of a lo aded .38 caliber handgun and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Weapon While Committing a CDS Offense, Possession of Prohibited Ammunition (hollow point bullets) and Certain Persons Prohibited from Weapon
Included in these arrests are 31 individuals apprehended for Contempt of Court on outstanding warrants, 56 narcotics-related arrests and others arrested for CDS Possession, CDS Distribution or Wandering to Purchase CDS.
These charges are merely accusations.
Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
