There is a homicide investigation underway in a Union neighborhood at this time.
Details regarding the incident are developing, but according to preliminary reports, police responded to reports shots fired that erupted on Gates Terrace at 2:30 p.m. where officers arrived to find one person unconscious and unresponsive laying on the ground after being struck by gunfire.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
A vehicle pursuit had officers chase the suspect in the area of Scotch Plains, Mountainside where one person has been detained, and a weapon reportedly recovers.
Residents in the neighborhood said that a vehicle pulled up to the area and fired at least one round at the victim.
The identity of the victim is unknown at this time.
