Man Charged with Robbing 67-Year-Old Man in Newark's Ironbound Section; 55-Year-Old Woman Also Robbed

Newark Police are reporting the arrest of Mr. Rayquan Miles, 19, and a 15-year old male, both of Newark, in connection with two armed robberies that occurred last night.

Police said the first robbery occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m. When a 55-year old woman was robbed at gunpoint in the 200-block of 2nd Avenue West by two males wearing ski masks.

Police said at 10 p.m., a 67-year old male victim was robbed at gunpoint at Elm and Van Buren streets by two males who fit the same description as the suspects in the earlier robbery.

In both cases, the suspects fled by getting into a dark-colored vehicle, believed to be an Infiniti.

Police said shortly after midnight, officers observed a vehicle fitting the description of the suspect vehicle and initiated a motor vehicle stop, but the driver ignored the officer’s commands to pull over.

The vehicle eventually stopped at Irvine Turner Boulevard and Belmont Terrace and the driver and three occupants fled fr om the v ehicle, which had been reported stolen out of Pompton Lakes.

Police apprehended and arrested Rayquan Miles and the juvenile, who are both charged with two counts of robbery, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Eluding and Receiving Stolen Property.

These charges are merely accusations.

Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

This investigation is continuing as two other suspects remain at large.
