A police pursuit that began out of Edison ended near Newark Airport with a 55-year-old man under arrest.
The pursuit began after police were called to the Investor Bank on Amboy Avenue shortly after 10:30 Friday morning.
Shortly after, Officer Joe Chonka - an off-duty officer of the Edison Police - who was in the vicinity, followed the suspect who was fleeing in a green minivan on Woodbridge Avenue.
Suspect entered the New Jersey Turnpike northbound to Exit 13 in Elizabeth continuing on Routes 1 and 9, officials said.
The chase came to an end after the suspect's vehicle struck a concrete median divider striking two Elizabeth police vehicles before stopping in the southbound lanes of the highway.
Suspect identified as Carmine Mauro of Edison was arrested and transported to Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth with non-life threatening injuries.
Officer Chonka who suffered minor injuries was treated and released from JFK Medical Center in Edison.
No other officers involved in the chase were injured.
Edison Police, New Jersey State Police, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police, the Elizabeth Police Department and the Newark Police Department took part in the pursuit.
Initial investigation determined that Mauro entered the bank, demanded money and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
No one in the bank was injured.
The investigation is active and is continuing.
Bail for Mauro has been set at $250,000.
