A 35-year-old Newark was taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit yesterday.
According to police, at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers on foot patrol near the 300-block of Morris Avenue received a complaint from a concerned citizen that drug activity was occurring near the intersection of Morris and 15th avenues.
Upon becoming aware of police presence, a man ran away from a group that was congregated at the location. As the man - later identified as Roger A. Williams, 35, of Newark - fled, he dropped a loaded .22 caliber handgun.
The firearm was recovered and detectives obtained a warrant for Williams' arrest.
Please police arrested Williams yesterday without incident and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Resisting Arrest.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
