9-Year-Old Girl Goes Missing in Newark for Several Hours

A frantic police search for a 9-year-old-girl that went missing in Newark ended with authorities locating and returning the girl to her parents.

According to authorities, K.H., 9, went missing from her residence at around 2 p.m. and had police issue a city side alert for the 5ft tall 132-pound black female.

She was last observed wearing blue jeans, a pink halter top, and white Barbie sneakers at around 6:30 p.m. after a call came into police headquarters reporting the missing child from her parents.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, K.H. was returned to her family without incident before 9 p.m.

Director Ambrose would not reveal where the child was found, but sources said that she might have been at a friend's house during the period she went missing.

The child was taken to University Hospital for a precautionary evaluation according to reports.

The incident remains under investigation.
