Two men were arrested after the police served two separate search warrants last week.
Police arrested Mr. Kenneth Taylor, 24, of Newark, following the execution of a search warrant at a home on the 400-block of South 11th Street.
According to police, officers obtained the search warrant after receiving a Crime Stoppers tip regarding narcotics sales occurring at the location.
During the search, police recovered a loaded 9mm handgun along with 13 vials of cocaine and 32 bags of marijuana.
Police subsequently arrested and charged Taylor with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of weapon while committing a CDS offense, certain persons prohibited from weapon possession, possession of CDS (cocaine and marijuana), CDS possession with the intent to distribute, distribution of CDS within 1,000-ft. of a school, distribution of CDS within 500-ft. of a park, distribution of CDS within 500-ft. of a public housing complex and trespassing.
Furthermore, police investigating citizen complaints regarding drug sales in the area of 4th Avenue and North 11th Street, observed Derrick Crutcher 36, of Jersey City, engaged in drug sales at the location.
Upon becoming aware of police presence, Crutcher placed narcotics, namely cocaine and heroin, into a vehicle parked on the 200-block of North 11th Street. Police also observed a loaded 9mm handgun inside the vehicle.
Police immediately arrested and charged Crutcher with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Possession of CDS (cocaine and heroin), CDS Possession with the Intent to Distribute, Distribution of CDS within 1,000-ft. of a School, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Certain Persons Prohibited from CDS Possession.
Crime Stoppers tips also led to police recovering two loaded rifles inside a residential building in the 300-block of Irvine Turner Boulevard as well as a loaded shotgun and a loaded .45 caliber handgun inside a vacant residence in the 200-block of North 11th Street.
These charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
