A 16-year old Newark juvenile was taken into custody after he was found in possession of a loaded handgun yesterday.
According to authorities, at approximately 4 p.m., police in the 500-block of South 19th Street observed the armed juvenile.
Upon becoming aware of police presence, the teen ran tossing the gun, which was reported stolen out of Maryland.
The .40 caliber handgun loaded with hollow point bullets was subsequently seized and the juvenile was apprehended.
The teen was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (hollow point ammunition), Receiving Stolen Property, and Resisting Arrest.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect is assumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
