Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson reported a Camden man has been charged in connection with an incident that occurred Sunday, May 21, 2017.
Derrick Cauthorne, 38, was charged with one count of 2nd Degree Manslaughter in the death of 53-year-old Jose Rivera-Hernandez, also of Camden, on Wednesday, August 9, 2017.
According to police, on May 21, 2017, officers responded to reports of a fight in the area of the 2700 block of Federal Street at approximately 11:57 p.m. where they found the victim laying on the ground bleeding and going in and out of consciousness.
Jose Rivera-Hernandez was transported to Cooper University Hospital and received treatment. He was eventually transferred to a rehabilitation facility where his condition worsened. He was pronounced deceased Saturday, August 5, 2017 at approximately 2:08 a.m.
Cauthorne, who has been in Southwoods State Prison for a parole violation, was originally arrested on May 31, 2017 for other charges related to the incident.
All persons charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
