A Union County jury has returned guilty verdicts against two Elizabeth men charged with multiple drug offenses, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Wednesday.
Alphonse Anderson, 35, and Levar Davis, 37, were convicted following a four-day trial before state Superior Court Judge Robert Kirsch and several hours of jury deliberation.
On January 20, 2016, following a month-long Elizabeth Police Department Narcotics Unit investigation led by Detective Athanasios Mikros, members of law enforcement executed a search warrant of the Olive Street apartment where Anderson and Davis lived, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Kathleen Dillon, who prosecuted the case.
Seized at the apartment were approximately 450 folds of heroin, 16 small baggies of crack cocaine, a quantity of marijuana, and other drugs, Dillon said.
The two defendants were arrested at the scene and indicted in June 2016 prior to the case going to trial.
Anderson was found guilty Tuesday of third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance and third-degree possession with the intent to distribute.
Davis was found guilty of the same charges, as well as an additional third- and fourth-degree drug offense.
Sentencing for Anderson and Davis has been scheduled for Friday, October 27th before Judge Kirsch.
Both defendants are subject to mandatory extended sentences due to prior drug distribution convictions and will face terms of up to 10 years in state prison.
