An 85-year-old woman died Monday after a man she knew attacked and robbed her last month.
According to reports, on July 19, 85-year-old Annie King was found lying on the floor inside her 200 block of Keer Avenue home by her grandson. The bedroom had been ransacked and police believe that King had been lying there for at least 24 hours.
Detectives arrested Brice Hay, 59, - who King was trying to help - and charged him with attempted murder.
King was a retired Newark public schools teacher who was known by the community as someone who always tried to help those in need.
King leaves behind four children and 10 grandchildren.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has not charged with homicide at this time.
