Township Committee suspends the police chief Tuesday night after recordings were released showing officers being ordered to push black youth into a neighboring town.
According to reports, officers were accused of using excessive force against a group of teens who claimed cops had forced them to march out of town after a Fourth of July celebration last year.
Video from police dash cams and recordings of police radio transmissions were released which resulted in the decision to suspend
Chief Robert Cimino with pay for 60 days and suspended Capt. Joshua Cummis with pay for 30 days. A unanimously motion of no confidence in the chief was passed requesting that he resign immediately.
In addition, the township has hired Chicago-based law enforcement consultant to review the department’s policies and training and gather input from the community.
