A female and a child were seriously injured Friday night after a car hit the pair as they attempted to cross the street.
The accident happened at about 7:40 p.m. when a car driven by a 79-year-old Rahway man struck the female and child as they crossed near the intersection of Pearl Street and Liberty Street.
The female and child were both transported to University Hospital, where the female is being treated for serious internal injuries while the child suffered a serious leg injury.
Police said the driver was not injured and was the sole occupant of the vehicle. They said he remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
The incident remains under investigation.
