A high-speed pursuit that began on a highway in Belleville ended in a community in Lodi with an arrest overnight.
Belleville Police attempted to pull over a vehicle in the northbound lanes of NJ-21 when the driver of the white work van, bearing the reported license plate numbers "XAJN88", ignored officers lights and sirens and sped up the highway.
According to preliminary reports, the driver of the van left the highway at exit 11-A in Passaic and sped along Main Avenue then coming to an end on Turdy Drive where the suspect bailed out of the van and into the woods.
Police from several municipalities assisted in the search for the white male who was last observed wearing a white shirt with jeans.
A search had officers finding the man then place him under arrest. The van was towed from the scene.
There were no reports of injuries.
