Authorities have confirmed a fatality in this morning's pedestrian strike that occurred on Rt. 1&9 in Elizabeth.
According to officials, at around 4:12 a.m. near the intersection of Route 1&9 and East Jersey Street, emergency responder rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a person down and suffering serious injuries.
Police and Medical staff arrived at the scene to find a male victim suffering life threatening injuries at that location.
Medical staff pronounced the man dead a short time later.
According to preliminary reports, officials said the victim, who is approximately 40-years-old and Hispanic, was attempting to cross the highway when a vehicle traveling southbound struck him.
The identity of the victim will not be released until next of kin is properly notified.
There were no arrests or summonses reported.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
