Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced today that Raheem Rudd, 24, of Newark has been arrested for the murder of Kevin Barber, a 16-year-old East Side High School student, who was killed in an incident in which three others were wounded but survived.

The murder occurred on Jan. 11 at approximately 5 p.m. at the John Hyatt Court Complex, a Newark Housing Authority building. It is alleged that Rudd shot all four, causing the death of Barber and serious bodily injury to three other males ages 15, 16 and 19.
Today Rudd was arrested by members of the FBI Task Force in Atlanta, Ga.
He is currently being held in the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta awaiting extradition. Rudd is charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, eluding law enforcement, possession of heroin and possession of heroin with intent to distribute.
These are accusations.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
