A State corrections officer was sentenced Friday to five years imprisonment for his part in a smuggling ring that brought tobacco, drugs and cell phones into a state prison satellite facility at Ancora in Winslow, authorities announced today.
Superior Court Judge Edward McBride sentenced Conrad Jackson, 40, of Cumberland County, to the five year term. Jackson pleaded guilty to 2nd degree Conspiracy to Commit Official Misconduct in late April.
An investigation conducted by the Department of Corrections Special Investigations Division found Jackson, a five year employee of the department, brought contraband into a correctional facility while he worked as a senior corrections officer at a satellite unit of Bayside State Prison, a minimum security facility on the grounds of the Ancora State Hospital in Winslow.
Jackson has been on leave for disciplinary purposes since his arrest and he will be dismissed from his position.
Jackson admitted to smuggling tobacco, drugs and cell phones into Ancora twice a week for approximately a year.
An inmate at the prison, Tiquan Stevens, 37, of Jersey City, acted as a middleman, receiving contraband from Jackson and selling it to inmates. Stevens pleaded guilty to 3rd degree Conspiracy to Commit Official Misconduct and is serving a term of three years in a New Jersey state prison.
Jackson’s paramour, Jenna Ackley, 30, acted as another intermediary outside the prison, receiving the proceeds from Stevens’ sales through wired money. Ackley also pleaded guilty to 3rd degree Conspiracy to Commit Official Misconduct and is pending sentencing.
The Department of Corrections investigation began in June 2013 and the three defendants were arrested in October, 2013.
