A 36-year-old Newark man accused of assaulting a female Friday, was arrested and charged, following a short pursuit.
According to authorities, at approximately 11:30 p.m., police responded to West End Avenue near Howell Place on a call of an aggravated assault.
Upon arrival, officers learned a male suspect struck a female victim and discharged a firearm following a quarrel. The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment.
Police canvassing the area observed a man fitting the description of the suspect.
Police said when the suspect became aware of police presence, he fled but was ultimately arrested without further incident.
Police also recovered the loaded handgun tossed by the suspect.
Officers charged Farlow with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Certain Persons Prohibited from Weapon Possession.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
