Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating a fatal shooting.
Authorities said , at approximately 2:40 p.m. Thursday, Malcolm Gardner, 26, of Newark was shot in the 300 block of Hawthorne Avenue.
EMS transported Gardner to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:15 p.m.
A 27-year-old female was grazed in the incident and treated and released from the hospital.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
At this time, no suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made authorities said.
