A crash that occurred near a school on Thursday evening left a female pedestrian dead in Newark's North Ward.
Emergency responders were called to the 200 block of Broadway near the Technology High School and New Public School Student Center shortly before 7 p.m. where crews found a vehicle on a sidewalk with a pole down and an unconscious and unresponsive woman lying on the ground upon their arrival.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, EMS transported the unidentified woman to University Hospital where she died a short time later.
According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle somehow lost control and crashed into a pole near the Post Office, but there were not sure if the woman was struck by a pole or by the vehicle.
Investigators from the Prosecutor's Office processed the scene for several hours to find the cause of the crash.
There were no other serious injuries reported.
