NJ Transit Authorities, SWAT Close Newark East Ward Street to Search House

Newark

Officers from NJ Transit with the assistance from Newark Police and SWAT stormed a Newark Ironbound house on Thursday afternoon.

Residents observed about a dozen law enforcement officers on Darcy Street near Wilson Avenue where they surrounded the property at around 6:15 p.m.

According to residents, officers only spoke to a few people on the porch of the home, while the remainder of the team were inside the house doing a search.

"There seemed to be a large group in the backyard doing a search, but occupants of the house seemed quiet and did not appear upset or bothered at all, "a Darcy Street resident said.

"I saw them coming out of the house with drills and saw, so I am not sure what they were looking for, but I don't believe that anyone was taken into custody which would be weird for a large contingency of police with automatic rifles, and a large SWAT vehicle.

A spokesperson for Newark Police stated that the city was there in a support role for the outside agency but did not immediately provide further details.
