A high-speed pursuit of a suspect wanted for armed robbery and possessing a loaded gun ended in a crash with the suspect apprehended in Newark while you slept.
Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of **Mr. Lamar Willams, 21, of Newark,** for an alleged robbery that occurred early this morning in the city.
Although these charges are merely accusations lodged against Mr. Williams and he is considered **innocent until proven guilty in a court of law** this is what police said Mr. William did.
Shortly before midnight, a sergeant from the Fifth Precinct was patrolling on Elizabeth Avenue when he witnessed two suspects entering a vehicle after Mr. Williams and accomplices robbed a 19-year-old victim of cash and other personal items.
Authorities said the sergeant pursued the vehicle on Sherman Avenue where at the intersection of Vanderpool Street the driver lost control and struck a pole.
Officers moving onto the scene arrested Mr. Williams and recovered a loaded firearm authorities said.
Mr. Williams reportedly requested medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries, and no other casualties reported.
Police said Mr. William's two accomplices sprinted from the vehicle, escaping apprehension.
These suspects remain at-large authorities said.
Police charged Mr. Williams with robbery, possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, and conspiracy to commit a robbery with other charges pending.
While police are actively searching for Mr. William's accomplices, they seek the public’s assistance in quickly locating and removing them from city streets.
