The Newark community will focus in on one of its high schools this morning as two planned initiatives are set to draw about one hundred to the educational facility.
Beginning at 10 a.m. at the Newark's Central High School, **The Honorable Mayor Ras J. Baraka, city officials, and Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose ** invite the community to attend the newest class of Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) commencement ceremony.
According to police officials, **G.R.E.A.T.** offers a classroom curriculum, for fourth and sixth-grade students, taught by officers of the Newark Police Division. The program is designed to steer youth away from violence, gang membership, and delinquency at an early age.
During the sessions, which run 13-weeks for middle school students and nine weeks for elementary students, participants learn lessons on drugs and bullying, involving role-playing and essay-writing.
Beginning at 11 a.m., the community is expected to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony where students learned the designs of changing shipping containers into housing in Newark.
Get there early in order to get parking that is first come first served and limited to streets around the school.
Hope to see you there.
