Jersey City Police notified hospitals in the area to be on the look out for walk-in shooting victims after gunfire erupted in a neighborhood in the city.
Police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the 500 block of Garfield Avenue before 5 a.m.
Officers arriving at the scene found several shell casings, but no victims were found.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
