Mistrial Declared for Linden Man Accused of Stabbing Woman 17 Times

Franklin Township (Somerset) Linden

After a six-week long trial, Somerset County Superior Court Judge Bradford M. Bury declared a mistrial in the attempted first-degree murder trial of a Linden man.

According to reports, on Friday, April 25, 2014, the victim invited several friends, including Wilson, over - while her parents were out of town - to allegedly make marijuana brownies and smoke the drug. At some point, the victim kicked Wilson out, accusing him of stealing. Wilson left the residence but came back in the morning and allegedly stabbed her 17 times and repeatedly hit her in the head with a barbell.

Authorities charged Wilson with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree robbery, two counts of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose - a barbell and knife - and third-degree theft.

The jury Friday told the judge that they were deadlocked on all charges.

However, Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Murphy said the state plans to retry the case, the next date for the retrial was not set.

Wilson will remain in Somerset County Jail.
