Two women were injured after they were thrown from a motorcycle on Route 1&9 Sunday afternoon.
According to police, officers responded to the northbound lanes of Routes 1&9 near Randolph and East Milton Avenues at approximately 3:53 p.m. for a report of a single-vehicle crash involving a 2003 Suzuki GZ250 motorcycle.
Upon arrival, police, and EMS found the driver, later identified as Jenny Velasco-Salgado, 46, of Elizabeth - and the passenger - later identified as Ana Plaza- Romo, 28, of Elizabeth.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Velasco-Salgado for unknown reasons lost control of the motorcycle which caused both women to be thrown from the motorcycle.
Velasco-Salgado and Plaza-Romo were transported by medivac helicopters to University Hospital in Newark. Velasco-Salgado suffered injuries to her face and arms. While Plaza-Romo sustained head trauma, police added.
Routes 1&9 near Randolph and East Milton Avenues remained closed for approximately three hours while the crash was being investigated.
