Neighbors rushed to the aid of a man suffering serious burns after a house exploded in a Piscataway neighborhood early this morning.
Emergency responders rushed to the 80's block of Hopkinson Avenue at around 4 a.m after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a fire with injuries.
First arriving crews found a totally destroyed house burning with a large debris field at that location.
Residents said, during the early morning hours, they heard a loud explosion then debris flying around the streets sending them out of their homes to investigate.
The intense flames coming from the burning rubble had residents on the street attempting to assist the man, who they said was around the age of 40-years-old and lived alone. The man was pulled to safety by residents until EMS arrived at the scene.
EMS rushed the man to St. Barnabas Burn Center suffering severe burns.
Firefighters were able to control the blaze in about an hour.
The cause is under investigation.
