Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announces the sentence of Santos Granados, 43, of Prospect Park, New Jersey on June 9, 2017.
Police said on February 15, 2017, after a trial before the Honorable Adam E. Jacobs, J.S.C., a jury found Mr. Granados guilty of one count of First Degree Aggravated Sexual Assault; one count of Second Degree Sexual Assault; three counts of Third Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child and two counts of Fourth Degree Criminal Sexual Contact for sexually assaulting three female minors, who were the children of Mr. Granados’ close family friends.
During the trial, the jury heard from a number of witnesses including the three minors, who were twelve, fourteen and fifteen years old at the time of the offenses, as well as from a detective of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Special Victims Unit, who was the lead detective during the investigation of this case.
At the trial the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Anneris Hernandez of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Special Victims Unit and Mr. Granados was represented by Peter Festa, Esq.
At sentencing, Judge Jacobs sentenced Mr. Granados to 25 years in New Jersey State Prison on the Aggravated Sexual Assault count, which pertained to the youngest victim, pursuant to The Jessica Lunsford Act which became law in July 2014. Judge Jacobs also sentenced him to two 4 year sentences on the Endangering the Welfare of a Child counts for the additional two victims and each of the three sentences were ran consecutive to each other, meaning that Mr. Granados must complete one sentence before beginning the other two sentences.
The remaining counts merged into the other sentences.
Finally, Judge Jacobs sentenced Mr. Granados to registration under Megan’s Law and Parole Supervision for Life.
