Stray Bullet Penetrates House, Strikes Child in Winslow Township

Winslow Township

A New Jersey teen was sleeping when a stray bullet pierced through her bedroom wall injuring her, police said today.

Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Winslow Police Chief Robert Stimelski reported stray rounds struck two people in their homes during a shooting in the Sicklerville neighborhood this morning.

One victim, a 13-year-old female, was struck in the lower back while sleeping in her bedroom. A round came through the wall of her home on the first block of Hathaway Drive shortly before 12:45 a.m.

She was taken to Cooper Hospital in Camden and was in stable condition Monday.

A second person, a 56-year-old woman who also lives on the first block of Hathaway Drive, was cut by broken glass sprayed when bullets entered her bedroom.

She was treated by EMS at the scene and declined further medical attention.

Both victims were injured by shots fired in what appears to be a gunfight outside on Haywood Drive near its T-intersection with Hathaway.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to contact Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Vincent McCalla at (856) 225-8569 or Winslow Twp. Police Detective Cary Robinson at (609) 567-0700 ext. 1147.
