Authorities in Newark are reportin that members of their Special Enforcement Bureau arrested two Newark men, Kenneth Lee, 55, for possession of a loaded handgun, and Darryl Hall, 29, for CDS distribution, last night.
Police said approximately 11 p.m., detectives observed a black Lincoln Towncar traveling through the intersection of Bergen Street and Madison Avenue without headlights.
Police conducted a motor vehicle stop and smelled a strong odor of raw marijuana emanating from the vehicle according to police.
Officers said they also observed a handgun inside the vehicle.
Police recovered the loaded handgun then placed the driver, Kenneth Lee, under arrest.
Officers said they found Lee in possession of one glassine envelope of heroin.
Police charged Lee with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Certain Persons Prohibited from Weapon Possession and CDS Possession.
Lee was also issued summonses for driving without headlights and for possession of CDS in a vehicle.
Police arrested Darryl Hall for an outstanding warrant and found him in possession of 59 glassine envelopes of heroin and 10 zip-lock bags of marijuana.
Police charged Hall with two counts each of CDS Possession and CDS Distribution along with CDS Distribution Within 1,000-ft. of a School, CDS Distribution Within 500-ft. of a Public Housing Complex and Contempt of Court.
Officers charged a second passenger, Derrick D. Dennis, 25, of Newark, with outstanding contempt of court warrants.
These charges are merely accusations.
Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
