53-Year-Old Man Suffers Minor Burns in Harrison Restaurant

Harrison fire officials are investigating an incident where a Gutenberg man suffered injuries due to an oven fire at a restaurant in the city on Saturday afternoon.

According to police, at 2 p.m., Harrison Police were dispatched to an ‘explosion’ at 440

Harrison Avenue "La Fiamma Restaurant."

Authorities said that their investigation, along with the Harrison Fire Department, determined that a restaurant worker attempted to light one of the ovens after he believed that the pilot was out.

According to authorities, during the man's attempt to light the pilot, existing gas ignited causing a quick back flash, burning the man's face and head.

Once escorted to safety, authorities said the man's injuries appeared minor.

EMS transported the man to University Hospital for further treatment.

There did not appear to be additional damage or injury when Harrison Fire Department turned the scene over to PSE&G who also responded to ensure that there was no danger to the utilities authorities said.

The incident remains under investigation.
