Police and detectives are on the scene of shooting with one person down at this time in a residential neighborhood in Irvington.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 400 block of Grove Street before 8 p.m. where the victim was found unconscious and unresponsive after suffering injury from gunfire at that location.
Police have a crime scene established and an investigation underway.
The incident is close to the Newark border.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office have confirmed a homicide investigation.
