Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of Ramy A. Zaki, 25, of Bayonne, for an aggravated assault at the commencement ceremony of the New Jersey City University held at the Prudential Center today.
According to police, at approximately 10 a.m., a 60-year-old male victim was struck by Zaki following an incident inside the arena, where the victim is alleged to have pushed Zaki’s mother before he struck the victim in the head.
Although EMS responded, the victim chose to remain at the graduation and to seek medical attention at a later time.
Zaki was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault.
This charge is merely an accusation.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
