Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey, Chief David Irizarry of the Metuchen Police Department, and Chief Michael Lloyd of the Monroe Township Police Department said today that two men have been arrested and charged with operating a multi-million dollar marijuana growing and distribution business.
The two men were arrested and charged on May 22, 2017, following a six-week investigation by the Metuchen Police Department, with assistance from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homelands Security Investigations, the Monroe Police Department, the Woodbridge police canine unit, the New Jersey State Police, and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
The defendants were identified as Eddie Chan, 42, of Monroe, and Albert Chan, also 42, from Queens, N.Y. The two men are not related.
They each are charged with possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute in a school zone, maintaining a drug facility, and possession of drug manufacturing and distribution equipment.
As a result of the investigation, detectives seized 161 marijuana plants, 16 pounds of marijuana ready for distribution, production equipment and packaging material.
The investigation determined that the men were growing the plants and packaging the marijuana at a warehouse on Liberty Street in Metuchen.
The investigation is active and is continuing. Anyone with information may call the Metuchen Police Department at (732) 632-8500.
As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Eddie Chan and Albert Chan are merely accusations and they are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
