Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of 31-year-old Newark resident Ahmeen Burrough for falsifying a police report and claiming he was shot.
Director Ambrose said on Monday, May 15th, around 11 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting in progress in the 800-block of South 14th Street and found Burroughs suffering from a gunshot wound.
Burroughs alleged that while walking on Clinton Place near Nye Avenue three males attempted to rob him after they exited a Mercury Marquis.
While fighting with one of the males he claims one of the suspect’s accomplices shot him Director Ambrose said.
After an extensive investigation by Major Crimes Detectives John Labella and Exmil Gonzales, they were able to gather sufficient evidence to arrest Burroughs and charge Burroughs with Unlawful possession of a 45-caliber handgun and falsifying a police report.
The charges lodged against the suspect are merely accusations.
He is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
