A fire that engulfed a taxi cab on a Route 22 in Newark had firefighters on the scene.
Heavy fire ignited the vehicle in the westbound lanes of the highway just across from Weequahic Park at around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
The driver of the taxi managed to safely escape the vehicle after noticing smoke coming from under the hood.
Firefighters swiftly extinguished the fire with little disruption to traffic.
